Swim Lesson Missed-Class & Make-Up Tracker

Every family misses a swim class sooner or later. Whether you get a make-up depends on your school’s written rules, and most make-ups come with a deadline. Write the rule down once, log each missed class as it happens, and never lose a make-up or a week of progress by accident.

📜 Step 1: Our School’s Make-Up Rule

Swim school and location
Child’s name and level
Make-ups included per session
Type (make-up class / credit / token / none)
Notice needed before class
Make-up expires after
How to book a make-up
Illness handled differently? (Y / N)
If the pool cancels, we get
Front desk phone / email
Get it in writing. Copy this from the enrollment agreement or parent handbook, or ask the front desk. Make-up rules differ widely from school to school, so do not assume.

❓ Step 2: Questions to Ask Before You Pay

  • Are missed classes eligible for a make-up? Some schools offer them for every absence, some only for illness or pool closures, and some not at all.
  • How much notice do you need? Many schools require notice before class starts. Ask for the exact cut-off.
  • How long is a make-up valid? Write the expiry date on your log the moment a class is missed.
  • Can a make-up be a different day, level or location? Ask what is flexible and what is limited by space.
  • What happens when the school or pool cancels? Ask whether the class is rescheduled, added back or credited.
  • Is there a limit on make-ups per session? If so, save them for illness and pool closures rather than routine absences.
  • Are refunds or transfers ever offered? Ask for the policy in writing, particularly for long absences.

🤒 Step 3: Skip or Swim?

  • Diarrhea, fever or a stomach bug: stay home. The CDC advises children with diarrhea not to swim, and to wait at least 24 hours after it has stopped.
  • Message the school as soon as you know. Notice is often what qualifies a class for a make-up.
  • Ask the instructor what to practice. Bubbles, back floats with a parent holding and water-comfort games keep skills fresh.
  • Book the make-up right away. Do it while you are in touch, not at the end of the session.
Stay home if sick. Do not bring a child to swim with diarrhea, a fever or any illness that could spread. Check with your pediatrician if you are unsure, and follow your school’s illness policy.

📋 Step 4: Our 12-Class Missed-Class Log

How to read it. Look for patterns. If the same day keeps clashing with another activity, ask about a different class time. If make-ups are expiring unused, book the next one the same day you log the absence.

🗓️ Step 5: Our Family Plan

A line to remember: “Log it, tell them, book it, use it.” Write the missed class down, message the school, book the make-up and use it before it expires.
