📋 Step 1: Class Basics

Day, time and pool location
School front desk phone
Instructor’s name
Parent or guardian phone numbers
Emergency contact (not at the pool)
👪 Step 2: Authorized Pickup List
Adult 1: name, relationship, phone
Adult 2: name, relationship, phone
Adult 3: name, relationship, phone
Adult 4: name, relationship, phone
Password or ID the school asks for
Date the school received this list
📞 Step 3: Changes of Plan
Tell the school before class. Use the way the school prefers: phone, email or the front desk.
Name the adult who is coming. Ask that adult to bring photo ID in case the school asks for it.
Tell my child who is picking up. Use plain words, so a new face is not a surprise.
Never ask my child to pass on a change alone. The adults in charge need to hear it from me.
Share the instructor’s and front desk’s contact details. The adult picking up should know whom to ask.
🚗 Step 4: Carpool Agreement
Agree on who drives and who stays at the pool. Write the schedule on the lines below.
Agree on who watches each child on the deck. Eyes on the water and on the children, with phones put away.
Check every child’s car seat or booster. Right size for the child and the vehicle, buckled every ride, including the cold ride home.
Count children at pickup. Every child is handed to the right adult, by name.
Share allergy, health and emergency details. Every driver has them, and the school has them too.
Never leave a child alone in a car, locker room or poolside. Not even for a minute.
⏰ Step 5: Late Pickup Backup
Choose a backup adult. Give them the school’s phone number and the class time.
Ask the school what happens when an adult is late. How long it waits and whom it calls.
Keep my phone numbers up to date at the school. Tell the school if a number changes.
Call the school and my backup right away if I am running late. Do not wait until class ends.
✅ Step 6: Our Family and Carpool Plan
Who drives on which days
Who is the backup adult
Carpool families and phone numbers
Where we keep this plan
Adults who need a copy
When we review this plan
Young children are never alone near water. If a child is in trouble in the water, get help and call 911 or my local emergency number. Lessons and plans do not make a child drown-proof, at any age.
